SELECTING SHADE SAILS: WHAT YOU SHOULD CONSIDER ABOUT THE FABRIC

Shade sails are available in a wide variety of colors, fabrics, and patterns.

A shade sail not just helps to beautify your home and business but also offers protective functions. That is why it is important to carefully consider the type of fabrics that will fulfill the particular needs of your sail shades.

Here are some things that you should factor in when buying shade sails.

Waterproof Fabric

Waterproof fabrics are made of fine fabric with very tightly braided meshes. These fabrics offer excellent protection from the sun and the rain and are often used to provide shades for homes, outdoor cafes, and other commercial businesses. It is recommended that these shade sails be placed high since they also prevent the passage of air. If they are placed too low, the area beneath them will get too humid and muggy.

Permeable Material

These fabrics are made of a weave with a looser mesh that allows air to pass through well. These shade sails are an ideal material for providing the right amount of shade and air into the area beneath them. However, they do not protect from rain.

These shades are a good option if you want to cover patio furniture, a dining area, or a hammock and allow the guests to spend time outdoors in comfort. The plus side of these sales is that they do not retain rainwater that can form pockets on the fabric and weigh down the sails. They also allow air to pass through creating a cooler environment beneath the shades.

Polyethylene Shade

Shade sails are made of different types of fabrics depending on your need. The denser the fabric, the more it will be able to withstand the elements and support its own weight.

Polyethylene fabric is a looser mesh and allows air to pass freely. This is a great fabric that offers UV resistance and stain resistance. This type of fabric is very easy to maintain, is light, and does not fade.

Strength of a Shade

The shade sails should also have edges that are reinforced by a strip of hem or fabric so that the shade sail can withstand the force of the wind. It is a good idea to get shades that are not supported by eyelets as they can tear off during strong winds or from the weight of the shade itself over time.

Shade Sail Shapes

Custom shade sails allow you to enjoy your patio, restaurant, or other outdoor establishments. The great thing about them is that they are available in square, rectangular, and triangular shapes allowing you to select any shape that you prefer. In addition, they allow different sorts of configurations in a set of overlapping shapes and colors. These fabrics offer a modern architectural solution to protect your home from the sun.

Bottom Line

When erecting shade sails, it is important that you install them carefully. The right size, anchor, and positioning of the shade sail are crucial when it comes to providing you protection from the elements. That is why we recommend that you visit LOVESTORY to select your sails and get them installed professionally.

We bought 5 of these to put out in our pool area. Our pool and gazebo face the south and gets really hot. I have put in tropical gardens back in that area in hopes of cooling the area down but the plants were burning up so we put up 2 sails in that area and 3 over the pool to keep the grandbabies from getting sunburned.

RS,

This is my second order for these and they work well and are very strong. I have had the first ones only four months but they took the wind and rain without getting damaged

weaponx,

I love that they had a variety of sizes and shapes. It fit our deck perfectly.

Robert Mayer,

This product provides a great amount of shade during the hot summer days. It was very easy to install and the color is a nice accent to the house. I will be ordering another one to cover more of my patio

Damion Delton,

Love these sails! Bought two… awesome shade, great material, nice color and size.

Sunshine,

We purchased this shade sail to shade a portion of our deck that has a due west exposure.
This was easy to install along with another triangle shaped shade sail and works great.
We can now actually use our deck most of the day and the shade is a lifesaver.

Rey,

We love it! We are going to purchase one more shade to get even more coverage. The quality is great!

Melissa,

We used this as shade at the lake in the middle of the summer. It was great!

Vanessa Bridges,

These sails are nice and big, and provide large sections of shade. We’ve had them up several weeks now.

Carrie D.,

I got these because we needed a way to quickly, make our deck habitable in the day time. The sun is killer out there.

Tinker,

This shade sale worked perfectly to provide morning and afternoon shade and looks fabulous I like that the way the design looks, it was easy to install, and has held up to the monsoons of summer quite well.

Laura P.,

You won’t regret this purchase! Bought it for my daycare. My husband opted for quick release hardware because we see lots of winter and it made sense! We’re not quite finished woth construction, but these are adorable so I had to post.

hja1985,

I have ordered so many of these, and use them for a number of things, that I should be sponsored. These work for anything and everything. Need a patio cover? done. Carport? You got it. Shade for planters and animals in the heat wave? No problem. Use some t-post clips to add a cool looking privacy fence, or attach to a cage.

Kassie,

I use these shadecloths to put on top of my dogs’ kennels, as the NM sun not only is hot, but destroys a dog’s show coat! I have tried the beige color; this year I bought the terra cotta/clay(ish) color. It gives true shade. As long as they are being sold, I will buy this brand!

Woofie,

I bought this product to provide a sun shade on both sides of my patio. In California it’s very hot in the summer and the sun stays bright in the entire day. I need the shade so I can play ping pong in the backyard. It’s very light in weight and easy to install.

Smokey,

I have a hot tub on my deck and was looking for something to shield me from the rain (and snow, for that matter). My MBR deck is above it, but rain and snow still gets through the decking and if it’s windy it blows through the sides since it’s on the edge of the main deck. Even a patio umbrella wouldn’t be able to solve that problem. A friend told me about these sun shades so I thought I’d try one out. This sun shade was SUPER easy to put up and not only shields the rain and snow from my hot tub, but it also keeps the area shaded from the sun. It was also WAY less expensive than other solutions out there. What a genius invention- Wish I knew about these years ago!!!
